Hello! My question: is there any chance in the near future that FreeRealms' source code and assets will be freely released ?
Quite a while ago I played a little bit of "Ryzom" - a free and open source mmorpg. Wikipedia: "Because the game was not a commercial success, the french independent development studio Nevrax sold the game in December 2006. To save Ryzom from getting shut down forever the "Free Ryzom Campaign" was launched in order to gather enough funds from crowdfunding donations to purchase Ryzom and release the game as free software. On December 14, 2006 the Free Software Foundation pledged a donation of 60,000 dollars, but the campaign ultimately failed with only €172,988 raised of the €200,000 requested.
On May 6, 2010, the new owner Winch Gate announced the full release of source code under GPL and the artwork under a Creative Commons license, and a partnership with the Free Software Foundation to host a repository of the game's artistic assets... Since then Ryzom is community developed. Ryzom is free-to-play available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux on the official servers. The game requires registration, and a paid subscription is required for characters to advance beyond level 125."
That game is still up and running
So You see, maybe it can be done, but again: money is needed.

Thats not accurate at all he said keep it secret he never said the people in This fourm cant donate Oogway cannot receive any payment for the FR:R project directly. If he does then Daybreak can take legal action and shut the project down. If it was kept a secret, someone would eventually leak it. Sorry to say thats just how things are. Oogway however can receive donations personally, donations that are not connected to the FR:R project.

The idea of raising money so that Daybreak would release the Free Realms source code would have been a great idea when Free Realms was shutdown. If we did that now we would have a very low chance of reaching a donation goal. People have gotten over and/or forgotten Free Realms. It's a good idea, Although I doubt that Daybreak would release the source files.

Precision : "I doubt that Daybreak would release the source files." Thanks for the fast reply, even though it is a depressing one...
